About the project

Urban regeneration and nature recapture in the north of Sabadell

The focus of the urban recovery project is an energy transformer station, surrounded by a continuous wall that makes it inaccessible and isolates it from the city.

In addition, the trees surrounding the existing building reinforce the visual disconnection and keep it hidden from the main access axis to the north of the city of Sabadell.

In front of the heritage building, there is an undeveloped field that hinders the connection between the neighborhoods of Ca n’Oriac and Can Puiggener

The project proposes the reconnection of these isolated neighborhoods by establishing a new access road to the green area of the Ripoll river

This new road will recover the axis of vision towards Can Puiggener and at the same time provide new public and private spaces for the city of Sabadell

The proposal includes mixed use spaces to regenerate the northern area of Sabadell in terms of sustainability and biophilia.

Around 4000 square metres of new gardens and squares will be created. Offices will be developed that promote economic recovery creating more than 200 workplaces. In addition, more than 3000 square metres of social and private housing will be built. All of them conceived with sustainability in mind.

The social and private housing will be connected through a new passageway that joins the two neighborhoods

In the upper part of the passageway there will be a public viewing platform open to the natural environment of the Ripoll River, a tributary of the Besos river that flows into Barcelona.

The extension of the commercial hub via a new bicycle lane will connect the viewing platform with a large playground area based on the use of energy and water.

The building design will help bridge the 4-and-a-half-meter gap between both neighborhoods, transforming the entire environment into a green, playful and energy rich space.

The transformers of the power substation will be visually and acoustically isolated through a green wall and a photovoltaic canopy that will provide both energy and shade to the new electric vehicle parking area.

In this way, the project will recapture nature and regenerate the North side of Sabadell.
